Hi, my name is Karen, and I’m one of Tasmania’s most well known contemporary photographers. Marcel and I live with our teenage daughter and a very small dog on a few acres on the mountain just above Hobart. We look out over the ocean, with Mt Wellington right behind us, we love living there!
I was born in Tasmania, although I have lived abroad for a number of years and have travelled widely in Asia and Europe, always carrying a camera of course…
I have been photographing for a long time and I am very passionate about being a photographer, in my own personal and relaxed style, at the highest level of professionalism.
I’m always very busy as a documentary, wedding and portrait photographer, whether it is actually photographing or editing a session or working on a private artistic project. I have an excellent eye to capture people. You can trust me to do a very good job at photographing your wedding, your corporate event or your portrait session. I’m a good communicator and listener, which helps a lot in getting those shots that make a difference. I often bring an assistant so that I can focus on creating great images and interacting with my couples and clients.
Karen Brown Photography is proud to support the Chumkriel Language School in Kampot in Southern Cambodia: we have been assisting this school with fundraising and visit regularly, and helping out with teaching, photography and other assistance.

Elopements & small, intimate weddings
You don’t live here but you’re thinking about getting married here in Tasmania? I photograph many destination weddings in and around Hobart, but I also travel to Tasmania’s East Coast (Coles Bay/Freycinet). I am very experienced in communicating with couples who travel to Tasmania for their wedding and I am also happy to help you with ideas and suggestions. I can also recommend a celebrant, hairdresser or make-up artist, and I can share with you my wide experience with wedding venues as well as anything else which can make your wedding a special experience for you.
Many couples like a small, intimate or elopement type wedding and I can often fit in small weddings or ‘elopements’ at fairly short notice so please don’t hesitate to contact me. I’d love to hear from you.
